Lorton HealthPlex Back on Track

The on-again, off-again Inova HealthPlex at Lorton appears to be on again. Coming back with a whole new plan for a smaller version of the facility, Inova must now go through the planning process again, including an Out-of-Turn Plan Amendment, for the 14.5-acre site at the intersection of Lorton Road and Sanger Street.

Lost Landmarks

What time, neglect and progress could not destroy might soon fall victim to Fairfax County’s Office of Code Enforcement, Blight, Nuisance, Vacancy Unit. Two properties that have been landmarks in Lorton since the turn of the last century are threatened with demolition in the Spot Blight Abatement Program if their owners cannot offer a reasonable plan to clean up and stabilize structures located on the property.

FCPS Trade and Industrial Education Program Gets Under the Hood

When Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine arrived at South County Secondary School (SCSS) last month for a program marking a partnership between Volkswagen of America and Fairfax County Public Schools, he first took several unhurried minutes shaking hands and speaking with each of the students who had lined up to greet him. The students were, after all, the most important people there. In the speech that Governor Kaine delivered moments later, he recalled the year he took off from law school, when he was principal of a vocational and technical school in Honduras.
